Shirley Yurigan Obituary

Shirley Louise Yurigan, 86, of New Alexandria, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, in UPMC, Pittsburgh. She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Turtle Creek, and was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth and Clyde Wilson. She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Clyde (Bud) Wilson, of Plum Borough. Shirley was a graduate of Duff's Business School, Pittsburgh, and worked for Westinghouse until she found the love of her life and devoted husband, Joseph Norman Yurigan, of Turtle Creek. She resided in New Alexandria for 60 years and raised three children. She was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother. Shirley enjoyed golfing with the girls and was a member of both the Latrobe Elks and Mannito Country Club Women's Leagues. Shirley was an avid book reader who also enjoyed watching golf. She was a standard breed harness horse owner, who admired her favorite horse, a filly named Triple J's Sly, her namesake. She was always excited when her horse won! Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and baking cookies and peach cobbler. Shirley was a lifelong Presbyterian, past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Deborah Court, Monroeville, and past Worthy Priestess of the Fraternal Order of Job's Daughters, New Alexandria. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 66 years, Joseph Norman; three children, Dr. Joseph James Yurigan and wife and loving daughter-in-law, Patricia, of New Alexandria, Deborah Blizzard and her husband, Bernie, of Tallahassee, and Bonnie Seevers of Burlington, N.C.; and her four grandchildren, Dr. Joseph James Jr. and Jaimie Yurigan, of New Alexandria, and Richard and Renee Seever, of Burlington, N.C.; and nieces and nephew. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. R. Bruce Maxwell and the Rev. Kathleen Shirey co-officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Turtle Creek.
