Samuel Lewis Grabiak, 83, of New Alexandria, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born July 18, 1929, in Greensburg, a son of the late Samuel Joseph Grabiak and Stella Jane Vensel. Sam was the former owner of Grabiak Chevrolet in New Alexandria for more than 50 years. He was one of the first Corvette specialists in Pennsylvania. Sam loved the high performance cars produced by Chevrolet in the early 50s. He was a lifelong member of the Corvette Club of Western Pennsylvania, where he was also treasurer for many years. Sam was a member of St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria. He served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Loretta C. Bushey. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Lou Grabiak; and children, Lisa Grabiak Varrato, Christen Grabiak, both of New Alexandria, and Andrea Hershberger, of Arizona; grandchildren, Giano J. Varrato, Miranda Grabiak, Noah R. Varrato and Kenzie M. Varrato; a brother, Dr. Gregory D. Grabiak, of Latrobe; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, at the corner of Church and Washington Streets, New Alexandria. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. James Catholic Church, New Alexandria, with the Very Rev. Larry J. Kulick, J.C.L., as celebrant.
