Roy M. Landers, 88, of New Alexandria, died peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, surrounded by his family. He was born June 17, 1926, in Marshall, N.C., to Sam Landers and Willie Mae Allan. Roy was owner/operator of R & L Development in New Alexandria, where he was in charge of field operations. He was a coal stripper in West Virginia and worked with high wall mining. He was on the board of Directors of Commonwealth Bank and Trust. Roy was a member of United Methodist Church in New Alexandria for 65 years, lodge 518 Westmoreland Lodge of Greensburg, Pittsburgh Consistory, the Syria Mosque, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Westmoreland Forest 77, life member of the New Alexandria Lions Club and life member of the New Alexandria Fireman's Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Ed. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary D. Howell, of New Alexandria; two sons, Roy Dale Landers and wife, Rev. Linda D., and Steven H. Landers and wife, Jan, all of New Alexandria; grandchildren, Cassandra Lee Slezak and husband, Steven, of Blairsville, Aaron H. Landers, of New Alexandria, and Emily Ann Landers and Kelsey Lee Landers, of Los Angeles, Calif.; great-granddaughter Lillian Slezak. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18, 2014, at P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, in United Methodist Church of New Alexandria, with Pastor Rhea Summitt, pastor of United Methodist Church, officiating.
