Peter E. "Bully" Starry Jr., 90, of New Alexandria, died Thursday, April 22, 2010, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland . Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Salemville, he was a son of the late Mary (Bartok) and Peter E. Starry Sr. Pete was a retired coal miner. He also worked at Cloverleaf Golf Course in Delmont for many years. He was a Boy Scout leader for more than 60 years. He started the first junior conservation group in Westmoreland County . He was a charter member of the Salem Ukrainian Club and also the Salem Gun Club. He also was in the Citizen Military Training Camp. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Salemville. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Helen Phillips Starry; sisters, Kathryn Petrosky and Nellie Fenus; and brothers, Joseph Starry, John Starry, Mike Starry and Stanley Starry. He is survived by his two daughters, Betty Nemchik and husband, Frank, of New Alexandria, and Lorna Joyce Sembiante and husband, Anthony, of Decatur, Ill.; grandchildren, Frankie Nemchik, Terry Nemchik and Peggy, Chris Nemchik and wife Tess, Valecia Ross and John, Rachel Dettling and Todd and Dominic Sembiante; brother, Andy Starry, of Latrobe; sisters, Mary Masley, of West Homestead, and Anne Frazier, of Reading; five great-grandchildren, Katrina, Larissa, Ava and Gabrielle Nemchik and Valerie Ross; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Daffy. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. There will be a Panachida service at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in Salemville, by Father Joseph Bordach. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery , Unity Township. The family is grateful to Pete's nephew, Andy Phillips, for his loving care and help during his illness.
