Norman M. Earhart Sr., 99, of New Alexandria, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born July 23, 1913, in Jeannette, he was a son of the late George D. and Anna Mae Shearer Earhart. He was the owner and operator of Earhart Trucking Co. of New Alexandria. He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of American Legion Post 515 of Latrobe and the NRA. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army as a staff sergeant. He served in North Africa, Austria, Sicily, Italy, and Germany. He was crew chief for Gen. Eisenhower's aircraft. He was one of the 49ers, the first of Patton's 5th Army, who were the first to go into North Africa. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond, Carl and G. Albert; and a sister, Clara Ruth Earhart. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Betty B. Earhart, of New Alexandria; two sons, Norman M. Earhart Jr. and wife, Yvonne, of Blairsville, and William C. Earhart and wife, Tracey, of New Alexandria; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece, Norma Bennett; and two stepdaughters, Gail Miscovich and husband, Bob, of Greensburg, and Joyce McCullough and husband, Wes, of Glenrock, Wyo. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Clark Kerr, of Latrobe Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
