Michael J. "Mike" Langel, 88, of New Alexandria, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Lynn Haven Personal Care Home, Black Lick. Born Sept. 27, 1924, in Crabtree, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary Nemth Langel. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria and also was a life member of the Salem Gun Club. Mike served in the Army during World War II. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira Perina Langel, in 1999; a sister, Helen Govera; and an infant granddaughter. He is survived by daughters, Deborah Palko, of Blairsville, and fiance, Robert Duncan, and Marie Southern and husband, Jim, of Crabtree; three grandchildren, Stephen Palko and wife, Valerie, David Palko Jr. and wife, Michele, and Jimmy Southern Jr.; two great-granddaughters, Jessica and Jennifer; a great-grandson, Stephen; and a brother, John Langel, of Crabtree. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets in New Alexandria. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, in St. James Catholic Church, New Alexandria, with the Very Rev. Larry J. Kulik, JCL and pastor of St. James Church, as celebrant.
