Mary Huesgen Obituary

Mary A. (Smith) Huesgen, 89, of Derry Township, passed away with her family by her side Friday, June 2, 2017. She was born July 4, 1927, in Kersey, Pa, Elk County. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence (Koch) Smith; her beloved husband of 51 years, Gene L. Huesgen; both sons, George R. Huesgen and John Girard Huesgen; and a daughter, Patricia Ann Huesgen, sister in law Susie Smith. Mary is survived by three daughters, Mary E. Noel, of Cresson, Amy Wilson and son-in-law Doug Wilson, of Blairsville and Jean Marie Huesgen, of New Alexandria; one grandson (son of Mary), Jacob George Noel, whom she loved dearly; a granddaughter, Dakota Lea Huesgen, of Jacksonville, Fla. (daughter of John);a brother Jack Smith, two nieces Jackie Smith and husband Jack, Susan Hoffman and husband Denny and nephew John Smith and wife Sandy and four grandfurbabies, Jasper, Jasmine, Reno and Chloe. Mary was full of life and love. Most of her life she was a homemaker, but she did work for a patent attorney and then for Tomers Greenhouse.in Delmont, which she loved very much. She had an adventurous side to her as well. She received her pilots license in her twenties. She loved riding motorcycles and went on several trips with Mary, riding either on the back of the cycle or in the sidecar. She raised horses and rode when all of her children were growing. She went ziplining at age 84 and said she would like to try sky diving and going for a hot air balloon ride. She loved the sun and warm weather and, after moving several times with her husband Gene, they settled in Tequesta, Fla. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for more than ten years. She worked in a thrift store that sold goods to raise money to build houses. She even helped to build a few houses. Mary loved meeting people and sitting and talking with them. Anyone that just met her loved her immediately. She dearly loved her favorite dog, Jasper, who would watch over her always and protect her from the other dogs' crazy antics. She was born on the perfect day, July 4. She was a real firecracker and a pistol. She will be greatly missed by all, especially her children and the dogs that loved her so much. There will be visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., the time of services, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 215 Church St., New Alexandria.
