Marcella J. Drummond, 95, of New Alexandria, departed this life peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at home. She was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Export, a daughter of the late Anton and Anna (Bushinski) Bartkus. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John L. Drummond in January 2005; brothers, Steve, Tony, Joe, Pete and Vince; and sisters, Ann Marie and Helen. Marcella was a stay-at-home mother. She loved to cook and her kitchen was constantly filled with aromas of homemade meals and baked goods. Summers were spent gardening, and each fall spent preserving the bounty of her harvest for her family to enjoy during the winter months. She also enjoyed attending bingo events and was a familiar face at local churches and clubs hosting the game any given night. She is survived by her children, Marlene Kolman, of Michigan, John Leonard Drummond, of Lynn Haven, Fla., Jo Ann Smeltzer, of Blairsville, and Marcy Drummond, at home; grandchildren, Joseph (Lindsay) Speal, Tracy (Carlo) Carlone and Katie Smeltzer, of Whitney, Pa.; and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and Medi Hospice staff for their loving, compassionate, unfaltering care they provided to Mom and the family. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in the funeral home. An additional visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Kathleen Shirey, pastor of Community United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, New Alexandria. www.newhousefuneralhome.com.
