Lois Trow Obituary

Lois Ann (Hurst) Trow, 77, of New Alexandria passed away on January 16, 2025.  She was born on March 17, 1947, the daughter of Fred Everett Hurst and Virginia Margaret (Fichtner) Hurst of Elizabeth Township; the granddaughter of Fred W. and Gisella (Lux) Hurst and Dr. Ross M. Fichtner and Martha (Freeland) Fichtner.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Trow (Bob Trow, a Pittsburgh icon) her brothers, James Earl Hurst and Thomas Everett Hurst and her niece, Amy Lee Styche.  She is survived by her companion, Jack A. Simmen, a sister, Janet Lee Styche of Weedville PA, a niece, Susan Joanne (Scott) Richardson of Spring TX; nephews, Brian Edward (Nicole) Styche, Jason Everett (Heidi) Hurst, Matthew Everett (Amy) Styche, and Rev. August Paul (Gretchen) Hurst.  She also had two stepsons, Robert D. Trow of Ojai CA and Eric A. (Amy) Trow of Irwin and step grandchildren, Heather Lynn Trow (Michael) Shurina and Parker E. (Katie) Trow, as well as two great grandchildren, Mickey Joy Shurina and Ozzy Parker Shurina, numerous great nieces & great nephews.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and spent most of her professional life in law offices where she retired as Office Manager at Fried Kane Law in Gateway Center, Pittsburgh and several other law offices, banking and HR companies.  She was a member of the Community United Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria where she served on the History Committee, The Phoebe Bayard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pennsylvania Notary Association and former member of the Pittsburgh Human Resource Society.  She loved taking classes and was a “life-long learner" taking Con-Ed classes, but most of all had a great passion for history.  She also loved music and had a large collection of many genres; gardening, photography and most of all her love of dogs. She liked all breeds but was especially fond of Golden Retrievers.  In earlier years she traveled covering all but four states and lived in five states (TX, OK, LA, CA, and PA) as an Officer's Wife.  There will be a celebration of life held in the Spring.  Contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Association, Community United Presbyterian Church, WQED or Excela Hospice.  P.
