Josephine Cassiere Obituary

Josephine E. Cassiere, 89, of New Alexandria, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Greensburg Care Center, Hempfield Township. The daughter of Joseph Canton and Rose DeBarba Canton, Josephine was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Elk County. She was a housewife and homemaker, a member of St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria and a former member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Saltsburg, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by her children, Anthony Cassiere and wife Josie, of Indiana, and Rosella Reed and husband Joseph, of Clarksburg; six grandchildren: Tony, Jason, Carla, Tiffany, Joey and Katrina; four great-grandchildren: Zerek, Marissa, Reed and Malea; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank Cassiere, in 2004, and her siblings: Ida, Mary, Lee, Emma, Frances, Alex, Oliver and Lou. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the P. David Newhouse Funeral Home on the corner of Church and Washington Streets in New Alexandria. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in New Alexandria with the Very Reverend Larry J. Kulick as celebrant.
