John Paul Koynok, 98, of New Alexandria, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Crest Personal Care Home, New Alexandria. Born June 14, 1913, in Hannastown, he was a son of the late John Levic Koynok and Julia Raphael. John was a retired coal miner. He was a former bartender at the Lantern in Latrobe. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church of Crabtree. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Koynok, of Florida; a niece, Barbara and husband, John Bracovich, of New Alexandria; and several nephews and a niece. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Crabtree with the Rev. Father Leon Hont, O.S.B, as celebrant.
