Jean Bash Obituary

Jean (Elder) Bash New Alexandria Jean (Elder) Bash, of New Alexandria, died at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Jean was the oldest daughter of the late Robert and Geraldine Elder, of Derry Township, New Alexandria. She was married to Lawrence F. Bash for 51 years. She and her husband managed and operated a beef cattle operation after her retirement from 40 years of teaching at Derry Area High School as a social studies teacher. Jean was beloved by her students and her 4-H members as she directed the oldest Westmoreland County 4-H Club, the New Alexandria 4-H Home Economics Club. Jean was an avid seamstress and quilter and a member of the Loyalhanna Quilt Guild. She served as home economics superintendent for both the Westmoreland Fair and the Derry Township Ag Fair. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lawrence F. Bash, of New Alexandra. She is survived by her siblings, Robert B. Elder and wife, Kathleen, Bruce B. Elder and wife, Karleen, Joann E. Logan and husband, Thomas B., Frances Koontz and husband, Richard, Martha J. Clawson and husband, Merle and Dorothy A. Bash. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria, with Pastor Dennis Marshal of Grace United Methodist Church in Indiana, Pa.
