Harold D. Obituary

Harold D. 'Hash' Carney, 97, of New Alexandria, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, in his residence. He was born March 21, 1914, in Brackenridge, a son of the late Clyde Carney and Velma Peppler. Hash retired from Barbonus Construction Co. of Greensburg as a finish carpenter. He was also employed at Rendor Construction Co. of New Alexandria. He was a member of Community United Presbyterian Church of New Alexandria, having joined on Easter 1941. He also became an elder of the church Feb. 21, 1954. Harold also belonged to VFW Post 33 of Greensburg and the New Alexandria Legion Post 652. Harold served in the Army during World War II in the Asia-Pacific Theater. He was a technician fifth grade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Marian Carney, in 1994; brothers, Arthur, Charles and Clyde Jr. 'Bucko'; sisters, Uldene and Regina; and a granddaughter, Melissa. He is survived by two children, Harold D. 'Chip' Carney Jr. and his wife, Barb, of New Alexandria, and Annetta Belle Carney and Harry, of Youngwood; grandchildren, Lisa Carney, Jeff and Eric and his wife, Rose; great-grandchildren, Cody, Mackenzie 'Mack' and Belle; half sisters, Lois and Eleanor; and a half brother, Donald. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Community Presbyterian Church of New Alexandria with the Rev. Clifford E. Buell officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, New Alexandria. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Association at the Community United Presbyterian Church, New Alexandria, PA 15670.
