Georgie M. Bennett

Georgie M. (Bowman) Bennett New Alexandria Georgie M. (Bowman) Bennett, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Westmoreland Manor. She was born July 22, 1929, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Walter "Mitch" Bowman and stepdaughter of Janey Bowman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James V. Bennett Sr., in 1993; and a stepbrother, Robert Sanner. Georgie was a member of Community United Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria. She attended Harrold High School in Hempfield Township, where she was a member of the High School Cheerleading Squad. She was retired from Hart Bus Lines, driving school buses for Greensburg and Gateway School districts. She was also previously employed by Trumbetta and Kepple Bus Lines. After 25 years of service, she was awarded a safe driver award for no accidents. She is survived by her two children, Bonnie L. (Colin) Kelley and James Jr. (Karen) Bennett, both of New Alexandria; her granddaughter, Jessica (Matt) DeMaria, of Brockport, N.Y.; and her two great-grandchildren, Brady and Scarlett DeMaria. She also leaves behind some special friends she made at the Manor, along with many good friends who have been with her throughout her life and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, Church St., New Alexandria. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Kathy Shirey officiating. Georgie's final resting spot will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park & Mausoleum, Delmont.
