George Merichko, 87, of New Alexandria, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born March 26, 1926, in New Alexandria, he was a son of the late Mike and Julia Guidas Merichko. He retired from Latrobe Die Casting, where he worked as a machine operator. George was a member of St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria. He was also a member of the Frontier Club in Latrobe, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Latrobe and the Lloydsville Sportsmen Club. George was a Korean War veteran, having served in the Army in the 629 Med Air Evac. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen C. Merichko, May 5, 1995; brothers, Mike, Andy and Joe; and sisters, Annie, Mary, Helen, Jennie, Julia, Margaret and Betty. He is survived by his three daughters, Wendy and Audra Merichko, at home, and Lisa Hunter and husband, Rob, of Latrobe; two grandchildren, Paige and Evan; a brother, Jim Merichko, of New Alexandria, and a sister Agnes Earhart, of California. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, and Sunday Oct. 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 until 9PM at P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria, with the Very Rev. Larry J. Kulick JCL, Pastor of St. James Church, as Celebrant.
