Dean F. Steele New Alexandria Dean F. Steele, 91, of New Alexandria, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at his residence after an extended illness, during which he was cared for by his daughter, Sally. He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Derry Township, a son of the late J. Raymond and Cora Olive (McCurdy) Steele. Dean was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army, 3rd Battalion, 142nd Infantry as a staff sergeant, where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Prior to retirement, Dean was employed by Latrobe Steel Co., for more than 40 years. He was a member of Community United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and trustee and was also a charter member of the Clipper Club. He was also a member of the Latrobe Elks Lodge and a charter member of the New Alexandria Lions Club. Dean loved to spend time on the golf course and at his camp in Marienville. He also spent many hours reading novels relative to history, especially World War I and the Civil War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Fisher and Willa Moody; and brother, John Steele. He is survived by his wife of 69-and-a-half years, Alyce K. (Erb) Steele; daughters, Mary (Alan) Bilzi, of Venice, Fla., Sally Midlam, of New Alexandria; son, Robert (Karan) Steele, of Greensburg; a sister, Betty Harr, of Latrobe; brother-in-law, Darrell W. Moody, of Latrobe; sister-in-law, Frances Steele, of Latrobe; grandchildren, Jodie (Gary) Davis, of Williamsburg, Va., Robin Midlam, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Blake and Brent Steele, of Greensburg, and Karrisa Woodring, of Jeannette; great-grandchildren, Megan and Audrey Davis and Adalyn and Kinsley Jackson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Community United Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria, with his pastor, the Rev. Kathy Shirey officiating.
