Clifford H. Helman, 88, of New Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1922, in New Alexandria, a son of the late Henry M. and Elva M. (Bash) Helman. He started his work career at the age of 18 working for Ramaley Construction Co., in New Alexandria, until 1957, when he went to Latrobe Construction, Co., where he was a heavy equipment operator. After Latrobe, he went to Derry International where he also was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Operating Engineers Local 66. He was a lifetime member of Latrobe Elks BPOE No. 97 and a lifetime member of the Cooperstown Club. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Garlow, in 1968. He is survived by his wife, Martha Nora (Ramaley) Helman; four children, Gary Helman, of Derry, Nora Podkul and husband, Walter, of Latrobe, Clifford Helman and wife, Patricia, of Latrobe, and Chalmers Helman and wife, Denise, of Latrobe; sisters, Esther Balocik, of Homestead, and Helen Overly, of McConnellsburg; grandchildren, Greg, Ryan Helman and Karen Siko, Amy Soich, Erin Swift, Kelly Helman and Eric Helman, Jason Brown and Chalmers Helman; great-grandchildren, Alec, Kaley, Devin, Kaylyn, Austin, Camden, Ainsley, Brady, Owen, Avery and Kael; and a special friend, R.L.
