Charles Brudosky, 88, of New Alexandria (Salemville), died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in Hermitage. He was born April 21, 1923, son of the late Michael and Stella (Laigo) Brudowsky. Charles grew up in a small coal mining region comprised of a strong ethnic community of Slovak (Ukrainian, etc.) and Italian descent. He was known to many as Charlie (his nickname as a youth was 'Yudi'). He worked all his life: starting out with delivering milk and eggs, selling vegetables from the family homestead, working at Westinghouse, working for Salem Township, working at Latrobe Steel for 38 years in the hammer department, and finally working for himself - recycling metals. His love/interests were as follows in order of importance: God, family - children, friends, his Ukrainian / Italian culture, fishing - hunting - gardening (his love for the natural world), recycling scrap metals, and his dog, Maggie. Charlie graduated from Greensburg Salem High School. He was a life member of Salem Gun Club, Ukrainian Club, and Clelian Heights. His spirit, traditions, and work ethic will be carried on! Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary P. Battaglia; and his brothers, Nick, Steve and John. He is survived by his son, Charles M. Brudowsky; nephews, Mike and Nick; nieces, Bonnie, Robin, Sharon Ann, Sandy, Marlene, Patricia, Sandy and Carol; and grandchildren, Joel and Nicole. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church with Monsignor Lawrence T. Persico as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Hill, Unity Township.
