Cathryn Mickolay Obituary

Cathryn (Katie) Mickolay went to be with the Lord on Friday January 3, 2014. She was born in New Alexandria daughter of the late Harry and Mary Pishko Samella. She married Philip A. Mickolay on July 1, 1950 her friend and companion until his death in 1992. Cathryn was a member of St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria. She also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and helping family and friends in any way possible. Cathryn worked for over 30 years as an Administrative Assistant at the Derry Office initially for the late Rep. Joseph Petrarca Sr. and most recently for Rep. Joseph Petrarca Jr. She previously held the position of Vice-Chairman of the Westmoreland County Democratic Party. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by brothers; Joe, Frank and John (Flash) Samella. She is survived by her two children; daughter Terri and her children Kirk and Corey and her son Phil and his children Drew and Emily and Drews wife Kelsey and a great grandchild Harlan. Also surviving is Cathryns twin sister Mary Davis. Sister Helen Merichko and brother George Samella along with numerous nieces and nephews. Immediate family will be received at the P. David Newhouse Funeral Home in New Alexandria on Tuesday January 7, 2014 from 4 until 8PM. Private Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at 10:00AM with the Very Reverend Larry J. Kulick, J.C.L. pastor of St. James Catholic Church in New Alexandria as celebrant. Private interment will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery.
