Carolyn R. Purvis, 63, of New Alexandria, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at home. She was born May 28, 1947, in Latrobe, a daughter of Dorothy M. (Stein) Rosborough, of New Alexandria, and the late Arthur L. Rosborough. She was employed as a certified nurse's aide for Golden Living Center. She was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in New Alexandria. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Purvis Jr. In addition to her mother, she is survived by three children, Arthur L. Purvis III and his wife Gale, Kara M. Purvis, and Stacey L. Smith and her husband Watson "JR" Smith Jr.; three grandchildren, Abigail Purvis, Savannah Purvis and Gregory W. Smith; eight brothers and sisters, Estelle Anderson and her friend Harold Shoop, Jerry Rosborough and his wife Maggie, Pat Rosborough and his wife Sue, Barbara Vought and her husband Bob, Mary Kay Rosborough, Michael Rosborough, Regis Rosborough and his wife Arlene, and Lori Scarnicky and her husband Ken; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Roman Catholic Church, New Alexandria, with Monsignor Lawrence T. Persico, JCL, as celebrant. Burial in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the P. David Newhouse Funeral Home.
