Annabelle Askew Obituary

Annabelle (Holsopple) Slezak Askew, 94, of New Alexandria, went home to her Lord and Savior Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Excela Hospital in Latrobe. She was born July 2, 1923, the ninth of 10 children to the late Edwin E. and Fannie G. (Weaver) Holsopple, of whom only the youngest, Nell Irene Taylor, of Elizabethtown, survives. As an active, lifelong resident of the New Alexandria community and member of the United Methodist Church, "Aunt" Annabelle had attended No. 16, a one room schoolhouse, served many years as clerk at Simpson's voting house, was a board member of the New Alexandria Senior Center and shared in the lives of many, near and far. In 1942, Annabelle married Charles J. Slezak and moved next door to the Slezak farmstead on Guthrie Road. In addition to their three children, son, Charles E. (deceased) (Linh), and daughters, Carol Dinco and Jan Buffo, the farm was also home to brother-in-law, Edward G. and wife, Edna (Muir) Slezak and their children, Deirdre Stewart and Bruce Slezak (both deceased), Sandi (Ron) Yantos, Pam Slezak (George) Gilbert, Aaron (Tracy) Slezak and Lea (Ken) McGinnis. She formed special bonds with beloved grandson, Dino, of California; niece, Rachel and her daughter, Rebecca, of New Alexandria, A.J. and Zack Slezak and granddog, Ellie (at home). At the heart of her being were the numerous relatives, both Holsopple and Slezak, and relations of all kinds including the families of her second and third husbands, Luther Tyger and Guy Askew (both deceased). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Alexandria Senior Center. Annabelle's family wishes to extend our love and sincere thanks to all the staff of Latrobe Excela Hospital and in particular to the Hospice Team. Your kindness and consideration is so deeply appreciated. Thank you. Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria, www.newhousefuneralhome.com. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, in the United Methodist Church of New Alexandria with Pastor Beth Meier officiating. Everyone go directly to the church. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in New Alexandria.
