Alyce Kathryn Steele

Alyce Kathryn (Erb) Steele, 91, of New Alexandria, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. She was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Brenizer. She was the daughter of Mary Gladys (Irwin) Erb and Harry Earl Erb Sr. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Edgewood Nursing Home in Youngstown as a nurse's aide. She was a member of the Community United Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria and was active in the Women's Association, and a charter member of the Clipper Club. Alyce spent many hours reading and playing solitaire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband of 69 1/2 years, Dean F. Steele; four brothers, Harry Earl Jr., James, Dale, and Ronald Erb, and one sister, Dorothy Erb Calisterio. Alyce is survived by her three children, daughters Mary (Alan) Bilzi, of Venice, Fla., and Sally Midlam, of New Alexandria, and son, Robert (Karan) Steele, of Greensburg; sisters, Leitha Erb Thompson, of Delmont, Marilyn Erb Harr, and Donna Erb Furtak, both from the Latrobe area; brother, Boyd Erb, of Latrobe, and sister-in-law Nellie Yeager Erb, of Latrobe; grandchildren, Jodie (Gary) Davis, of Williamsburg, Va., Robin Midlam, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Blake and Brent Steele, of Greensburg, and Karrisa Woodring of Jeannette; great-grandchildren, Megan and Audrey Davis, and Adalyn and Kinsley Jackson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 5, 2017, at the Community United Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria, with her pastor, the Rev. Grafton Eliason, officiating. Everyone please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, New Alexandria. The family would like to thank the staff of Excela Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
