Delores Widdowson Obituary

Delores George Widdowson, 96, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024.

Delores lived in Indiana, PA until she married John (Jack) Widdowson, Sr.  They moved to Gary, Indiana for a time, then moved back to Western PA.  She is survived by her son, Jack (Linda) Widdowson, daughter, Barbara (Richard) Kareis, and daughter, Col. Bridget Widdowson, Retired; she has 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jack Widdowson, Sr., her parents, J. Walter George and Erma Kunkle George and her brother, Raymond George.

She will always be remembered as a loving mom and grandmother.   She enjoyed traveling all over the United States and especially to the Navy reunions for the USS Gilmore. A favorite pastime was putting together jigsaw puzzles which she passed on to 3 generations of her family.  Baking was another favorite of hers, especially pies.  Mom will always be remembered for having a home everyone felt welcome and always left being refreshed.  PA has lost a bright light and beautiful soul, but her mark on her family of love, compassion, and kindness will be carried on by future generations.  She was a role model anyone would be proud to be compared to and a member of the Greatest Generation.  Though the sky is darker, the light of her example will continue to lead the way.

The family wants to thank St. Anne’s Nursing Home Staff, especially Lori, and the Heartland Hospice team of Maureen, Sheri, Lisa, and Amber, their compassionate care of mom.
